Keanu Reeves Doesn’t Think There Will Be A Sequel After Matrix Resurrections

Matrix Resurrections fans may be disappointed to learn that Keanu Reeves doubts there will be a sequel

Matrix Resurrections is now available in cinemas and HBO Max for you to enjoy. This is the fourth instalment of the Matrix franchise, which began in 1999 and to this day remains one of the most important science fiction and action sagas ever to hit the big screen. Its presence is so strong that it remains in the first fans’ minds and the new generations who have been able to enjoy the films and be completely enchanted.

Regardless of the reviews that Matrix Resurrections has garnered since its release on 22 December, we know that some fans of the legendary franchise will be disappointed to hear that a sequel to the film is unlikely. In a recent interview on the Empire podcast, Keanu Reeves, who reprises his role as Neo in Resurrections, said he didn’t think director Lana Wachowski would be interested in making another Matrix movie. “I don’t believe so. If I had to cast a ballot- No, not a ballot, a vote. I would say that Lana would not do another Matrix.” the actor added.

Keanu’s words make it clear that the director has no intention of bringing another Matrix film in the near future. In addition, in an interview with Collider, producer James McTeigue also confirmed that there are no plans for any more projects in the franchise. This is undoubtedly sad news for those who admire the Matrix story, Neo and the rest of the characters. McTeigue had this to say to Collider: “At the moment, it’s just the movie you’ve seen. We don’t have a prequel in mind. We don’t have a sequel in mind. We don’t have another trilogy.”

All the denials from the film’s top brass ensure that the Matrix won’t be back any time soon. We just hope it won’t be too long before we have Keanu back in action in some other franchise. Either way, if as fate would have it, Lana and Lilly Wachowski’s plans change, and they decide to return with a fifth Matrix film, Keanu Reeves said he would be happy to be involved. The actor had this to say: “If she invites me back, I’m in!”

The premiere of Matrix Resurrections took place in cinemas and on the famous streaming platform HBO Max, a fact that did not convince everyone connected with the film’s production. Many of those affiliated with Warner Bros. projects do not support the company’s decision to bring their content to the streaming service. One example of this is directors Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve, who both expressed their dissatisfaction with the company. However, the situation is different when it comes to Keanu, who revealed in a recent interview with The Guardian that he has nothing against people being able to enjoy the film from the comfort of their own home.

The film stars Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, alongside a cast that includes talented actors such as Lambert Wilson, Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra and Christina Ricci.
