The Batman’s First Reactions: Robert Pattinson Will Be Your “New Favourite Dark Knight”

MOVIE NEWS – Despite some severe scepticism, it looks like Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be a real crowd-pleaser against the odds.

Despite initially being set to be the DCEU’s big hit, Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight, the standalone Batman movie is looking pretty good – we’ll have our review up on Monday after the embargo expires – with some early reviews calling Robert Pattinson “your new favourite Batman”. The London premiere of the latest version of the superhero was last night, and the initial comments in the wake of the film have been overwhelmingly positive, further adding to the hype ahead of the film’s general theatrical release next week.

When Ben Affleck pulled out of the planned solo film, the script was reworked, and Matt Reeves was brought in to lead a new actor in the lead role. When it was announced that the new actor would be former Twilight star Robert Pattinson, some DC fans were outraged because they couldn’t get over the star’s former teen idol status. However, as the film got closer and closer, numerous trailers, teasers and images were released, and with each one more and more people getting on board the Pattinson train, it now looks like it will be one of the biggest Batman films of all time.

When it was announced that the new actor would be former Twilight star Robert Pattinson, some DC fans were outraged…

MTV Movies wrote in its first post-premiere comments that “Matt Reeves delivers a nail-biting, gritty and entertaining Batman-era-changing story”; Unilad called it “euphoric”, Empire “captivating” and Insider went as far as to claim “Robert Pattinson will be your new favourite Batman.” Not bad for a film that was announced before a single scene had even been shot.

When it was initially announced that Heath Ledger would play the Joker in the second film of Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the internet was flooded with people who couldn’t accept that a new actor would be taking on the role, last played with hilarious mischief by Jack Nicholson in the 1989 film. Of course, when the late actor’s role was played out on screen in The Dark Knight, no one could deny that they were witnessing a unique performance, one that was utterly different from Nicholson’s portrayal of the psychopathic villain, a fact confirmed by Ledger’s posthumous Oscar win. There are many parallels between Ledger’s Joker and Pattinson’s initial reaction to Batman, which helps to prove that it is always worth waiting to see a performance before passing judgement.

Fans will be able to make their own judgement on Pattinson’s performance on March 4.
