Batman Director Says Talks Already Underway For Catwoman Spinoff At HBO Max

MOVIE NEWS – The new Batman’s director Matt Reeves says Zoe Kravitz could get her own Catwoman spinoff series at HBO Max.

We might be seeing a lot more of Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle after Gotham’s most potent thief makes her Batman debut next month. The film, set in a standalone universe unrelated to the DCEU, will feature all-new incarnations of the characters. Director Matt Reeves aims to launch a new cinematic universe, with the film getting plenty of sequels and spinoffs of its own.

We’ve previously heard that there are at least two spinoff series related to the movie already in development on HBO’s Max streaming channel. One of the series will follow Gotham City’s police officers, but it’s unknown whether it will feature Jim Gordon, played by Jeffrey Wright, or other characters from the film.

Colin Farrell has also signed on to star in his own Penguin spinoff series as Oswald Cobblepot, the main villain he will first portray in The Batman.

At a recent press conference to promote the movie, Reeves also spoke about another important character who may get a spinoff series. According to CBR, the director was asked explicitly about the possibility of a spinoff for Zoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle. Reeves gave a very optimistic answer, revealing that such talks have been going on at HBO Max and that he would definitely like to see Selena’s story continue after the Batman storyline. For now, however, it seems that Warner Bros. will wait to see how the film performs before committing to a third spinoff.

“I’ve talked to the HBO Max folks. What we’re really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas for things we want to do, and for sure we want Selena to continue.”

Batman will have a big focus on Catwoman, as revealed in sneak peeks and trailers.

Robert Pattinson, who plays Bruce Wayne, has also spoken about the relationship between the two characters in the film, which will continue the traditional “friend or foe?” relationship often fostered in various stories. It also balances Batman and Catwoman in the movie.

“They have quite a strong connection pretty quickly, and I think they’re both trying to ignore that,” Pattinson told EW. “They’re both very surprised by feeling a connection with somebody because that’s quite rare for them. It puts both of us out of our comfort zone.”

Batman will be released in cinemas on March 4, 2022.
