Shiro Games’ game is being launched in early access by Funcom so that fans can start the spice wars earlier in development.

Dune: Spice Wars is coming soon to Steam in early access. This early access version essentially includes the core experience. There will be four factions, the political, espionage and war systems are completed, and they confirmed three victory conditions. There will be many updates during the early access period so that it will expand in terms of content and features. There will be a new multiplayer mode, more playable factions than the current four, the full campaign mode, and fine-tuning and balancing will happen.

In the press release, Sebastien Vidal, CEO of Shiro Games, said, “With so many massive Dune fans in the studio, the excitement I see every day of working with this universe is genuine, and we hope this comes across in the game. With all this passion for the source material and all the know-how we’ve gathered from making Northgard, we can’t wait to put this game into players’ hands.”

The game’s Steam page reads, “This union between real-time strategy and 4X elements, based on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece, Dune, pits four factions against each other on the desert planet of Arrakis, the only source of the most valuable resource in the universe: spice. The fourth playable faction has also been revealed today as the Fremen, along with the Early Access release. With a greater capacity to move across and withstand the open desert, less chance to attract colossal sandworms, and an improved ability to ally with hidden Sietches (neutral native settlements), the Fremen are uniquely poised to expand their area of influence to control the planet. Discover everything about the native desert survivors in today’s new Fremen reveal.

Dune: Spice Wars hits early access on Steam on April 26.
