Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Some Old Friends Return… [VIDEO]

Not many details have been revealed about Activision’s new Modern Warfare game, but a recent teaser reveals a few things, including who will be returning from the classic games…

So far, there’s only been one logo that’s made the internet rounds. Now we can say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is fast approaching. Activision’s long-awaited shooter is coming to PC and consoles on October 28, so in a few months, we’ll be back on the battlefield for what promises to be the most advanced instalment in the franchise.

The game’s developers have shared the news with a trailer featuring some of Task Force 141’s iconic characters on camera in the Long Beach harbour. As the video at the end of the article shows, Modern Warfare 2 will feature the classic squad of Captain John Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley, John “Soap” MacTavish and Kyle “Gaz” Garrick.

No details on the story or multiplayer mode are known at this time.

In addition, Activision has confirmed that the team mentioned above will be joined by a new member, Colonel Alejandro Vargas of the Mexican Special Forces. Modern Warfare 2 thus introduces us to its most important characters and prepares us for the next few months, when we will surely learn a lot about the gameplay and story.

Of course, the community has good reason to be excited about Modern Warfare 2. The first game was one of the most popular in the franchise, and Activision has spared no expense in developing a sequel. As we reported at the beginning of May, it seems that so many people are working on the Call of Duty franchise that they might as well start a city.

Is the beta and Vault Edition coming?

According to leaked information, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition will include the game’s first Battle Pass and 50 tier skips, the Red Team 141 Operator Pack containing Ghost, Soap, Price and Farah operators, the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault, 10 hours of double XP and double weapon XP, the Ghost Legacy Pack containing 12 Operator skins and 10 weapon blueprints, and early access to the open beta. Information on the pack price is not available at the time of writing.

Early access to the open beta will also benefit those who pre-order the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 cross-gen pack.

According to the leaked information, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta will be available to PS4 and PS5 players first, leaving PC and Xbox players to wait an unspecified amount of time before playing the game. Previous Call of Duty betas have also been PlayStation timed exclusives, so this probably won’t come as a big surprise to anyone.

However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could be the last time PlayStation players get exclusive CoD content. Microsoft is trying to acquire Activision Blizzard, and if the deal goes through, it will likely mean that Xbox will start getting exclusive Call of Duty content instead. It’s been said that Call of Duty games will remain multiplatform but that discounts will almost certainly go to Xbox Game Pass subscribers in the future.
