Cillian Murphy talks about the end of Peaky Blinders: “it’s the end of a great adventure”

MOVIE NEWS – The actor talks about the end of the acclaimed British series and has dedicated ten years of his life to Tommy Shelby.

Available just a few days ago, Peaky Blinders is back with season 6. Season 6 of Peaky Blinders found Tommy Shelby trying to recover from the loss he suffered at the end of season 5 while trying to identify the person who betrayed him.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy spoke about the end of the series and playing Tommy Shelby for ten years. Like many fans, Murphy explains that it hasn’t dawned on him that the acclaimed drama is coming to an end, and he still needs time to process what this series and this character mean to him.

For Murphy, it is a mixture of mixed feelings. As he describes in his interview with the British newspaper, he is very meticulous when it comes to preparing the character, something he does before he arrives on the set. However, transforming into Tommy Shelby is no easy task for the 45-year-old actor. The accent, the hours in the gym and the strict diet to show off the privileged physique of a Birmingham gangster, and smoking some 3,000 fake cigarettes a season, can be challenging for an interpreter who has dedicated the last ten years of his career to Serie.

“It feels like the end of something. It’s weird talking about it. I still haven’t figured it out. Maybe when it’s done, I’ll have some perspective. It is the end of 10 years of my life; a great adventure with many colleagues and people with whom you became very close”, reflects the Irish actor who has put himself in the shoes of the leader of the Peaky Blinders since the first season.

From day one, Steven Knight has intended to tell a redemptive story of a British gangster traumatized by World War I finding his place in an ever-changing world.

At the moment, it is not clear if the sixth season will have a “happy ending” or if, on the contrary, it will be the end of the boss of this criminal gang. The truth is that Murphy anticipated that the last episodes would be “very dark”.

Also, not to forget that Peaky Blinders is scheduled to come to an end with a movie, possibly filming in 2023. That said, the season six finale will likely not be the final one and will bring the story to a more significant close.
