Colin Farrell Loves His Role As The Penguin – He May Be Back For More!

MOVIE NEWS – Colin Farrell’s Penguin is getting his own series on HBO Max, but expect the actor to be in The Batman 2 if he’s asked.

Spending hours in the make-up chair to get into Oz Cobblepot’s skin probably isn’t the most fun, but Colin Farrell can’t get enough of his Penguin portrayal. Farrell made his debut as the main villain earlier this year, opposite Robert Pattinson as the titular superhero in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Because he wore prosthetics and heavy make-up, the role made him so unrecognisable that the actor ventured out in public during filming without anyone noticing.

Reeves is currently working on the script for The Batman 2, and it is not yet known whether Farrell will return as Penguin in the sequel.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Colin Farrell claimed that he’s still in the dark about it, as the story is just being outlined, and there is no script yet. With that said, Reeves can count on Farrell if there is a way to incorporate Penguin into the story, as Farrell has made it clear that he is fully committed to keeping the role of Penguin.

“Oh my god, you kidding me?! It’s so much fun, are you joking [with] me? I’ve been around the block man. That was an easy sport, I mean … it was a joy.”

Anyway, Colin Farrell will surely be back as Penguin. HBO Max has begun production on a new series focusing on Farrell’s Penguin and his rise to become one of Gotham City’s leading criminals. Farrell has revealed that Reeves will not personally direct episodes of the Penguin series but will remain heavily involved creatively.

“Matt’s up to his bollocks, you know, hovering over the keyboard and just planning the story because he’s just so meticulous. He’s so obsessive about what he does, but he’s all over [HBO Max’s] The Penguin [series] as well. I mean, he’s not gonna direct it but he’s all over the structure of the scripts and who’s gonna direct them. And so, it’s exciting.”

No word yet on when filming on Penguin will start. Colin Farrell suggests that work is likely to begin in early 2023. He will next be seen in the new film Thirteen Lives, which will arrive on Prime Video on 5 August 2022.
