MOVIE NEWS – Vince Gilligan revealed behind-the-scenes details about his next series after Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, which has a science fiction theme.

 

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan has teased new information about his upcoming TV series. As previously rumoured, Gilligan’s next series will not be set in the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe but will be a sci-fi series set in a new world.

He confirmed this and more during his appearance on the Rich Eisen show. Gilligan also confirmed that his next project, which he is now pitching to studios, will not focus on an anti-hero like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul did.

“It’s more focused on someone who has issues, rough edges, but basically trying to be heroic. I’m a little shy,” Gilligan said.

When asked directly if the new series would be a sci-fi project as rumored, Gilligan said that it was essentially true. “For me, it’s more allegorical, but yes, we can safely say it’s science fiction,” he said.

That’s all Gilligan said about the new series. Whatever the series will be, it will come from Sony Pictures TV, which is paying Gilligan at least $10 million to stay with the company after the success of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

According to a previous report, Gilligan’s new series will be more similar to the type of work he did on The X-Files years ago. The new series will reportedly focus on “the human condition”.

It has been described as a “blended, down-to-earth drama” similar to The Twilight Zone. It’s supposed to take place on Earth while “in an unexpected, surprising way” “rocking” it up a bit.

As for more spinoffs in the Breaking Bad universe, Gilligan said he “never says never” but that he has “not a shred of plans” to do anything else with the Breaking Bad world at this time.

However, Gilligan joked that he might return to the Breaking Bad universe “if they kick my ass with the new series.”

Breaking Bad finished five seasons in 2013, and Better Call Saul ended this month after six seasons.
