The Former Harry Potter Star Thinks He Could Be Played by the Former Lord of the Rings Star in a Spoof Film, Same As the Other Way Around

CINEMA NEWS – Former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says he and Lord of the Rings hero Elijah Wood could play each other if a parody biopic about their lives is ever made.

As someone who has just played another celebrity in a parody biopic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story star Daniel Radcliffe would have fun having his own life story treated the same way. In fact, Radcliffe already has the perfect idea in mind if such a film were ever made. The topic came up during a recent conversation with Variety while promoting Radcliffe’s new film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and Radcliffe said it should be Elijah Wood.

“I would say if anyone was going to make a parody of my life, it would obviously have to be Elijah Wood. We’d trade.”

With Radcliffe going a little further and suggesting that he could play Wood as well, he adds an interesting angle to the potential spoof movie that a lot of people would probably really like to see. It is said that this choice is obvious due to the physical resemblance of the actors, which has often caused fans to confuse one with the other. Of course, what they also have in common is that they are both stars of big fantasy film franchises, Radcliffe from Harry Potter and Wood from The Lord of the Rings.

“I was on a red carpet in Japan and a photo of you was pushed in front of me,” Radcliffe told Wood in a joint interview via MuggleNet. “My first instinct was to say, ‘Oh, I’m not… So I can’t…’ but I thought the language barrier would be too great. So the quickest way was to just write ‘I’m not Elijah Wood, [signature ] Daniel Radcliffe’, and then I hoped that someone would translate it for him later.”

In response, Wood shared his own story: “I’ve been applauded several times for my bravery on the Equus stage. Once I was in an elevator in Vancouver and it was just me and one other person and I felt him staring at me. Before the doors opened on the hall, finally got up the courage to point at me and say, ‘Harry Potter!’ I said, ‘No!’ and walked away.”

The topic of parody films comes up because of Radcliffe’s starring role in Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Although inspired by Yankovic’s rise to fame in the 1980s, the film also serves as a parody of musician biopics by taking some liberties and portraying “Weird Al” as a much more tragic figure. Although Radcliffe has proven his range in bizarre films in recent years, this looks set to be his weirdest role yet.

The official synopsis of the film is as follows:

“Daniel Radcliffe as “Weird” Al Yankovic in the unexaggerated true story of the greatest musician of our time. Al, who had a conventional upbringing where playing the accordion was considered a crime, rebelled and realized his dream of changing the lyrics of world-famous songs. An instant hit and sex symbol Al leads a promiscuous lifestyle and has a notorious romance that nearly destroys him.”

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story will begin streaming for free on The Roku Channel on Friday, November 4, 2022.
