David Duchovny Reveals How He Envisions The Future Of The X-Files!

MOVIE NEWS – David Duchovny is open to the idea of an X-Files sequel, but he can’t imagine Mulder’s solo story without Scully by his side.

Don’t expect Fox’s Mulder solo series to happen anytime soon. Back in 1993, Chris Carter launched the sci-fi series The X-Files. It starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. After the series ended, Duchovny and Anderson reunited in 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe, a sequel to the previous film adaptation released in 1998. The duo teamed up again for a two-season series revival in 2016 before parting ways in 2018 with the eleventh season of the series.

In the years since then, Duchovny has remained open to returning to the X-Files world, though Anderson seems much less enthusiastic about it, feeling she’s pretty much done all he can with the role of Dana Scully.

This led to the idea of possibly reviving the X-Files for a new story. Duchovny would return as Mulder, but he would not be accompanied by his old partner this time. The idea came to Duchovny in a recent interview with ComicBook.com. But the actor isn’t exactly in favour of it. He feels it wouldn’t be a real X-Files story if Carter and Anderson didn’t join him. Nevertheless, he still hopes the franchise will live on, even without Mulder and Scully.

“I don’t know. I’ve never really considered that. For me, it was always there’s no show unless it’s Chris and Gillian, so I don’t know. Again, I don’t want to have to think about that, because it’s not something that I necessarily need in my life, to go do that. I think at this point, I mean, there might be another iteration of the actual show without either of us. I’m not sure. Or there could be a cartoon. There are many ways to go about it. But personally, for me, the X-Files that I’m involved in consists of Chris Carter, myself, and Gillian, so I haven’t spent time trying to think about a different version of that, and I don’t know that I will.”

Is the X-Files really over?

Anderson said in 2018 that he was done with the franchise and confirmed that she considered season 11 to be the final season of The X-Files. Carter later said he hoped to continue. But like Duchovny, he agreed it wouldn’t be right without Dana Scully. But all hope is not lost. Anderson said earlier this year that she might return after all. But that would require a whole new writing team.

Time will tell, but it’s probably best not to bet on Anderson ever returning as Dana Scully.
