MOVIE NEWS – The actress revealed that she became a gamer to understand better the character of Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

 

 

Anya Taylor-Joy is best known for her role in Netflix’s award-winning series The Queen’s Gambit. Her voice will be used in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie, which will be released in the near future, as Princess Peach. Modern Luxury San Diego recently interviewed the actress about how she prepared for the role. Among other things, she talked about how the character influenced her: she started playing video games. Despite not being a gamer before landing the role, she became a dedicated fan during the preparation.

“Now I am a gamer, and it’s really fun. Ideally, I like playing at arcades, because, again, it’s like cinema; I love the ceremony. I’ll go with a whole bunch of friends. And we’ll just spend hours at the arcade.”

Peach first appeared in the 1985 video game Super Mario Bros. As a victim of the great villain Bowser, Peach is often featured as a non-player character (NPC). In some Nintendo titles, however, players can play the character, such as Super Princess Peach, where they must rescue Mario instead.

As the protector of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach seems to bring the usual formula to Super Mario Bros. As seen in the latest trailer for the film, Toad stands by the Princess as she fights directly against Bowser’s forces.

Taylor-Joy first appeared on screen in 2014 in the dramatic detective series Endeavor, which is set in a teen-centric setting. The Argentinian-American actress has since appeared in other acclaimed films, including Last Night in Soho and The Witch. Most recently, she appeared in the thriller The Menu, which also starred Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set for release in April 2023. In addition to Taylor-Joy, the film will star Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Jack Black as Bowser, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. The film was written by Matthew Fogel and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.

Taylor-Joy says she is looking forward to participating in the 2023 press tour as Peach, where she is scheduled to dress as the character.

Speaking to MTV News, she revealed that she really loves playing in arcades and that she has become “a hardcore adult arcade individual”.
