Two Tomb Raider Switch Ports Have Been Delayed

Two games in the Tomb Raider franchise that were scheduled to be released on Nintendo Switch in 2022 have now been postponed.

Two games in the Tomb Raider series planned for the Nintendo Switch have now been postponed. Tomb Raider is one of the longest-running franchises in the video game industry, having sold over 88 million copies as of January 2022.

In early October, Crystal Dynamics and Feral Interactive confirmed that two Tomb Raider games will be coming to Switch in 2022. Instead of the core series, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris were announced for Switch to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Now it’s been confirmed that both games won’t be coming to Switch in 2022.

As noted by DualShockers, Feral Interactive has announced in a recent tweet that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2023. In a subsequent tweet, Feral Interactive mentioned that they are considering releasing physical versions of the Tomb Raider games, but stated that nothing has been finalized yet. There doesn’t appear to be a set release window, so fans will have to wait for specifics on the schedule.

With just a few days left in the year, it’s probably no surprise that the two games are being pushed back to 2023. Unlike the mainline collection of Tomb Raider games released on consoles, both Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris take place from an isometric perspective. Both titles support co-op gameplay and received mostly positive reviews from critics upon release.

While the Switch may be powerful enough to port the rebooted trilogy, there is no word yet on Tomb Raider or its sequels coming to Nintendo’s console. Third-party developers have ported AAA titles to the Switch, such as Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, so it will be interesting to see if Lara Croft’s latest large-scale adventures make it to the platform.

Fans of the franchise can expect plenty of it in the coming years as Crystal Dynamics is currently working on a new AAA game. This next game will be published by Amazon Games and promises to be the biggest title in the Tomb Raider series.

Lara Croft, the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft, and the Temple of Osiris are scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch in 2023.
