Four Japanese Publishers Hint At Unannounced Projects

Atlus (part of SEGA), Konami, Spike Chunsoft, and Square Enix are all up to something.

Famitsu has summarised the New Year’s greetings of the significant players in the Japanese gaming industry. Among them, Atlus wrote: “In 2023, starting with the releases of the Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden remasters, we’re also preparing several unannounced titles. Please look forward to them!” They could have one new announcement this year or several. Persona 6…?

Konami went further than that: “This year is the year of the Rabbit, so we are planning power-ups and new developments for familiar series with the aiming of leaping even further. Additionally, we’re deeply and quietly progressing on new project(s) that we have yet to announce. Konami is leaping forward, so by all means, please stay tuned.” Silent Hill and Metal Gear – something suspiciously brewing around these.

Finally, Spike Chunsoft, the publisher of the Danganronpa series, will be publishing the PlayStation 5 physical edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition in Japan, as well as the Nintendo Switch port of ARK: Survival Evolved: “Additionally, we’re preparing unannounced large-scale title(s). We will likely be able to announce the not-so-distant future. Spike Chunsoft will be running through 2023 like a rabbit, so please continue to give us your support.”

There’s also the announcement by Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s producer, on the franchise’s website. It’s not an announcement related to FFVII, but he says it will be a big one: “Happy New Year to you all. Final Fantasy XVI is set to release this year, which means Yoshi-P needs your support now more than ever. Cheer him on as he gives it his all down the stretch! Also! Development is picking up speed on the title I’m producing, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I’m sure many of your collective imaginations are running wild trying to picture how we’ll recreate some of the game’s most iconic scenes, and we’ll have more to share about that when the time is right. There’s another big announcement unrelated to Final Fantasy VII that I can’t say anything about. Rest assured, we’re working hard to make sure 2023 is the most exciting year yet.”

Final Fantasy IX Remake and Final Fantasy Tactics could be what he was referring to. These two yet-to-be-announced games were on the list of the big Nvidia GeForce Now leaks in September 2021. Since then, Square Enix games confirmed (or even released) from there include Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamer Edition, Kingdom Hearts IV, and Tactics Ogre: Reborn. So things are looking up in the Japanese games industry. We will be curious to see what Konami does next!

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
