PlayStation Store: Could A Long-Awaited Title Be Gone From Pre-Order?!

We’re talking about a significant PS5 game that is no longer available to buy on PlayStation Store.

An extensive and upcoming PS5 game is no longer available to order from PlayStation Store! If this sounds strange, it’s not surprising: it’s scarce. What’s more, if you did buy the game in question, it seems that Sony will refund your money.

There will be many big and highly anticipated game releases in 2023, but none have been more anticipated than Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones.

Until last week – when the game’s latest delay was announced – the pirate game was scheduled for release on March 9. Now, it’s scheduled for release sometime between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024.

Neither PlayStation nor Ubisoft has revealed why the game is no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store. Nor have they said why the game’s Deluxe Edition had been cancelled. The listing for the base version of the game remains on the digital store. But now only the wishlist and tracking options are available, with no pre-ordering. Meanwhile, on Reddit and Twitter, users revealed that they have started to get their pre-orders refunded.

While it is not unusual for pre-orders to be cancelled when said game no longer has a specific release date due to a delay, this explanation does not cover the disappearance of the Deluxe Edition from the PlayStation Store.

As for the game itself, development on Skull and Bones began ten calendar years ago in 2013 at Ubisoft Singapore. It launched as the studio’s first game back then. It was subsequently unveiled in 2017 and was scheduled for release in 2018. As it has been delayed several times since then, it may now not arrive until 2024. Even between friends, that’s a six-year delay.

In the context of video game history, it’s one of the most delayed games and one of the longest in game development. Skull and Bones is about to claim the laurels of Duke Nukem Forever, which is a very disappointing result for Ubisoft.

PlayStation Store January Update

On a positive note, the monthly PS Plus Essential games arrived on January 24. This month, they are Axiom Verge 2 (PS4/PS5), Fallout 76 (PS4) and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4/PS5). You can find a list of the new games available to buy here.
