A State Of Play Coming Soon, A Big PlayStation Show Before E3?

Sony has reportedly acquired a new studio, but we haven’t heard anything official…

Jeff Grubb has so many shows it’s hard to remember them all; in the latest episode of Game Mess Decides, Grubb, writing for VentureBeat, talks about how after the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct and Nintendo Direct, Sony is trying to get attention with a broadcast, as two of the three console market players have revealed their cards. Sony may want to prepare for a smaller show in March at the latest and a more extensive broadcast towards the end of May or in June:

“There will be a [PlayStation] State of Play pretty soon. There are going to be even more games announced now! Don’t get your hopes up too high because it’s going to be a pretty low-key State of Play, but soon. […] Let’s say, in a month or so, or maybe a little sooner. Again, a little bit more low-key because they’re saving […] stuff for an actual PlayStation Showcase that will likely come before E3 time. So, there you go. […] Sony will quickly reload and re-launch their marketing campaigns. It will be like a one-two punch.,” says Grubb. It’s worth pondering this because, apart from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and out-of-concept titles like Final Fantasy XVI, we haven’t seen much from them recently…

We should also mention a new acquisition that may have been made in secret, adding another team to PlayStation Studios, as a Senior Dialogue Designer position has opened up in London. The description is suspicious: they’re looking for someone to work on “major AAA projects alongside our partners at studios such as Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games, Firesprite, Ballistic Moon, London Studios, Housemarque, Media Molecule, Insomniac Games, Sucker Punch Productions and more!” One of these things is not like the others…

All the studios are Sony’s, except Ballistic Moon! The studio’s founders include people who previously worked on Until Dawn at Supermassive Games. We’ve previously heard from another post that they’re working on a narrative-based game (codenamed Bates) for PlayStation 5. Did the company secretly expand to avoid the hype around Microsoft and Activision Blizzard? (We’ll come back to them later today.)

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
