Return To Silent Hill: Casting Rumours Officially Confirmed!

MOVIE NEWS – Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson will indeed play the two main characters in the Return to Silent Hill movie reboot.

According to new information, Return to Silent Hill, the new live-action adaptation of Silent Hill 2, has officially announced its first two cast members. Jeremy Irvine will be James Sunderland, and Hannah Emily Anderson will appear as Mary Sunderland.

Return to Silent Hill will be directed by Christophe Gans, who also directed the first Silent Hill film in 2006 – a live-action remake of the first game in the franchise.

He is also writing the script with William Josef Schneider and Keiichiro Toyama. The latter is the co-creator of the Silent Hill game series itself. Victor Hadida is executive producing. Jeremy Irvine, best known for his role in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse (2011), will play James Sunderland, while Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw) will play James’ wife, Mary Sunderland.

The question arises whether director Gans is up to the task of adapting such a large-scale game for the big screen. With his first live-action adaptation, Silent Hill (2006), which was intended to bring the first game in the series to life, many considered him to have done a reasonable job. But other fans disagreed with the changes made to the original story and its characters.

These included the change of the main character from a man called Harry Mason to a woman named Rose Da Silva and the questionable inclusion of the infamous monster, the Pyramid Head, and the hospital nurse monsters, both of whom only appear in the second game in the series, for very specific reasons.

This was probably all done to make the film more marketable. But they still distorted the original story. Now, in the case of Return to Silent Hill, including James and Mary Sunderland seems to be an encouraging sign. Everything we know about the synopsis is also quite promising. Fortunately, if all is true, much will remain very much the same. However, we don’t yet know whether the other key players in the game will stay true to the source or whether they will be changed in some way.
