The Informant

 

The story takes place in 1985, behind the Iron Curtain. Geri is going to college and is looking forward to meeting girls and partying. He joins a group of radicals led by the charismatic Sava. However, Geri has a secret: he is one of the informers of the totalitarian state. In order to save his younger brother, he is forced to spy on his new friends for State Security. Geri’s life is forever changed, juggling between parties and political debates while struggling with the daily dilemma of whose side to side with. Especially when the increasingly radical leader of the group, Száva, discovers that there is an informer among them.

 

The eight-episode drama, made entirely in Hungary, was directed, written and co-directed by Bálint Szentgyörgyi. Áron Mátyássy (Golden Life, Hétvége) and Bence Miklauzic (Parkolás) also contributed as directors. The main characters of the series are Gergely Váradi as Geri, Márton Patkós as Száva, Júlia Szász as Kata and Abigél Szőke as Judit, as well as Szabolcs Thuróczy as a maintenance officer.
