The voice actor, who voices Ada Wong in the Resident Evil 4 remake, has deactivated his Instagram comments after fans’ vitriolic reactions.
Ada Wong’s voice actress Lily Gao has deactivated comments on her Instagram and Twitter posts. This was done after receiving thousands of vitriolic comments criticising Wong’s performance in the Resident Evil 4 remake.
Although most of the hateful comments have now been deleted, some players managed to snap snapshots of them, showing how some fans were being unjustifiably nasty to him.
“You ruined the remake,” wrote one melodramatic commenter. “I feel like I just wasted my money buying the deluxe edition so this VA could dub Ada”.
“Great, now when Separate Ways comes out I’ll have to mute it” added another disaster tourist. “Worst voice acting I’ve heard in years. Why Capcom hired you instead of the former actress is beyond me.”
“Why do they act like she personally tried to murder them?”, asked a puzzled fan.
Gao declined to comment publicly on the matter. He has quietly removed replies from any post mentioning his role in the remake. Now, all but one post has been removed from public view. And the one remaining post has been closed to comments.
The fandom’s overreaction is reminiscent of when voice actress Laura Bailey faced the same hatred after she portrayed Abby in The Last of Us 2.
An actor’s performance is influenced by many things – including the script, direction and editing. But that hasn’t stopped this ridiculous subset of the fan community from flooding Gao’s social media and leaving hateful comments.
Earlier this week, players of the Resident Evil 4 remake discovered how to skip the Village Chief boss fight. If you’re not in the mood to fight Mendez again during the New Game+ playthrough, you can run through the scene of his boss fight by reloading a previous auto-save.
