Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Mario Platforming In Two Dimensions [VIDEO]

…but his elephantine appearance is a little scary. As an elephant? Why an elephant?

At Nintendo Direct, the Japanese company announced several games. There were some surprising projects announced (including a new title starring Princess Peach and a remake of the Super Mario RPG originally for the SNES, which is surprising because Square made the original), including the 2D platformer Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which Nintendo says is the next evolution of the 2D side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. games. When you touch a Wonder Flower in the game, the world’s wonders unfurl before you.

Pipes can come to life, hordes of enemies can appear, and characters can change their appearance. These concepts can transform the gameplay unpredictably, creating excitement and surprises on every level. In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi will be playable characters. So it’s not just the usual Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad foursome (seen in Super Mario 3D World, one of the games ported from Wii U to Switch). Super Mario Bros. Wonder will also see the debut of Mario’s new power-up, which will allow him to transform into Elephant Mario! What other wonders does this game have in store?

Fan artwork and photoshopped versions of Mario the Elephant have already started to appear, so it’s safe to say that Nintendo has already managed to get the public’s attention with this announcement, which will, in any case, be great free publicity for the Japanese company, which continues to interpret copyright laws according to its tastes (because, objectively speaking, playing a backup copy of a game you buy does not infringe their rights).

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released on October 20 for Nintendo Switch. And Nintendo doesn’t do much delaying (they did with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the King, but that was a much bigger caliber game).
