If there is indeed a remaster of the 2010 Western adventure, let’s hope it doesn’t come out in the same scrappy state as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Remastered, which saw three initially fantastic PS2 games get the proverbial axe in the face.

Last week, Red Dead Redemption was rated in South Korea, which means that Rockstar Games and Take-Two are going to do something with the game that was initially released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 (otherwise, it wouldn’t make sense to give it a review again, considering the game’s age). Former IGN editor-turned-insider Colin Moriarty spoke on the paywalled Sacred Symbols podcast about the existence of a Red Dead Redemption remaster!

“I have seen confirmation that this is real… I had someone reach out to me behind the scenes that showed me something definitively shows this game is coming, even imminently with an announcement, maybe in August,” said Moriarty. So it’s not out of the question that a facelifted edition of the sequel to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver could be announced during Gamescom, as the gaming industry event takes place in Cologne at the end of August.

In 2009, Sam Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar Games, said of the Rockstar San Diego game, “The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption. The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment, is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”

A remaster of John Marston’s adventure has yet to be announced by Take-Two, but we’ll have to repeat ourselves. It should not be released in a lousy state if it is indeed released, especially not on PC (where the Rockstar Games Launcher DRM could cause further problems for the publisher…), where audiences have been waiting for the first part for years since the second part was already released on PC.
