PS5 and Xbox Gamers to Soon Play Their Own Zelda-Like Game

FDG Entertainment has announced the release date for their newest Zelda-like adventure for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

FDG Entertainment announced that the next-gen version of Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm will be available on August 2nd, after a two-and-a-half-year wait. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports of Oceanhorn 2 will offer enhanced graphics and will support 4K gameplay at 60 frames per second. Alongside the next-gen release, there will also be a PC version priced at $29.99, which will include all quality-of-life and content updates from the game’s previous versions.

FDG Entertainment revealed that the next-gen version of Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is hitting the market on August 2nd. The long-awaited release date was confirmed two and a half years after the announcement of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports of Oceanhorn 2.

While the 2013 game Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas drew inspiration from classic 2D Zelda games, the open-world sequel primarily drew inspiration from The Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. The game first appeared as an Apple Arcade exclusive in September 2019, and a year later, FDG brought Oceanhorn 2 to Nintendo Switch.

Unlike the latest Zelda game’s Switch version, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports of Oceanhorn 2 will feature sharper graphics and support 4K gameplay at 60 frames per second. Although this is a significant upgrade from Nintendo’s latest console, the iOS original already offered a 60fps mode and ran at native device resolution. Even though none of Apple’s latest smartphones or tablets have 4K displays yet, it remains to be seen whether the upcoming ports will provide a significantly better visual experience than the latest two generations of iPad Pro. FDG has not clarified whether the next-gen versions of Oceanhorn 2 will feature larger draw distances or similar graphical improvements.

The next-gen release of Oceanhorn 2 will also affect PC, as the game is set to be released on Steam and Epic Games Store. FDG is offering it at a price of $29.99, the same as the Switch version. Speaking of which, the Switch port of Oceanhorn 2 is currently available with a 40% discount, allowing you to buy it for $17.99 until August 3rd. However, the iOS version of the game is still the cheapest, with a one-month Apple Arcade price of $4.99. Oceanhorn 2 has long been hailed as one of the best RPGs on Apple Arcade, not only for its gameplay qualities but also for its excellent optimization, making great use of mobile hardware.

The next-gen console and PC ports of Oceanhorn 2 will include all the quality-of-life and content updates that existing versions of the game have received so far. A successful next-gen launch could potentially increase the likelihood of a third installment in the series, provided that the Finnish developer Cornfox and Bros. isn’t already working on Oceanhorn 3. Until then, Oceanhorn 2 will be the closest thing to a Zelda version for PlayStation and Xbox when it finally hits the market in early August.

Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is already available on iOS and Nintendo Switch, while the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions will be released on August 2nd.
