Xbox Game Pass: Six Critically Acclaimed Free Games Coming This Month!

Xbox Game Pass users can get their hands on six incredible games during August, including a much-loved title.

One of the best things Xbox has going for it right now is Xbox Game Pass. For a monthly fee, you’ll get access to a vast library of games, including exclusives and indie games, as well as all the big new Xbox releases. For example, you can pay for a month, play through Starfield in September and then leave. Genius.

Xbox has now announced which new games will be joining Game Pass in the first half of August, and there are some absolute bangers among them.

One of the best action platformers ever made, Celeste, has just been added to the service after a short hiatus. Critics have been raving about it, and for good reason.

Brutally challenging but full of heart, warmth and humour, Celeste really is one of the best games of its genre. If you can stick with it, you’ll feel it’s worth experiencing.

As well as Celeste, A Short Hike, Broforce Forever, Limbo, Airborne Kingdom and Everspace 2 are all coming out later this month.

That’s a pretty good list. We would definitely advise anyone who hasn’t played A Short Hike or Limbo to give them a try. The two games couldn’t be more different, but they’re both short, sweet, and profound experiences that will definitely make you think.

The other three games received less fanfare but look interesting. Broforce Forever is definitely worth checking out. It seems really twisted in the best possible way.

  • August 2 – Celeste (cloud, console and PC)
  • August 3 – A Short Hike (cloud, console, PC)
  • August 8 – Broforce Forever (cloud, console and PC)
  • August 9 – Limbo (cloud, console and PC)
  • August 10 – Airborne Kingdom (cloud, console and PC)
  • August 15 – Everspace 2 (cloud and Xbox Series X|S)

In any case, if you’re looking for a game that tackles anxiety with ultra-challenging platforming, go play Celeste. If you want a game that does essentially the same thing, but swaps platforming for cool exploration and fishing mini-games, then go try A Short Hike!
