Blue Beetle: What Does The Post-Credit Scene Mean For The DCU?

MOVIE NEWS – Blue Beetle is now in cinemas. Do the film’s post-credit scenes hint at its future?

Blue Beetle is the first character in the revamped DCU. The film covers the debut of Jamie Reyes as he becomes the hero he was meant to be. The stakes are low, but the Reyes family connection allows the story to shine.

In the Gods and Monsters world, the two post-credit scenes hint at different ideas for the sequel. The first scene is the most important. In it, Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine) introduces Jamie to the Blue Beetle’s heritage. Jamie inherits the nickname from Jenny’s father, Ted Kord.

According to the film, Ted Kord disappeared years ago. His disappearance led to his sister Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon), the film’s main villain, taking over his company, Kord Industries. In the first scene, the audience is taken back to the Beetle Cave, where the computers are on fire. Air Supply’s song “All Out of Love” begins to play, and she starts jumping. A static voice plays, asking whoever turned it on to give Jenny a message.

The voice says: “Tell Jenny that her father still loves her and is still alive” and then repeats “Ted Kord is alive”. This scene foreshadows an exciting future for Blue Beetle in the DCU.

Ted Kord can introduce key characters

The Blue Beetle does not answer many questions about Ted Kord’s past. Although it is Jamie’s story, that does not mean that Ted was the only hero of the time. He may have worked with the heroes of this world. His Blue Beetle could have had a deep history with characters like Batman or more obscure characters like the Authority. Ted’s disappearance could be linked to a mission with any of these characters. Whatever that mission was, it could have caused his disappearance.

In the sequel, Jamie and Jenny could discover where Kord is and need help to rescue him.

Ted’s Beetle Cave may not have all the resources needed to do the job. They may have to travel to other cities, such as Gotham or Central City. This could allow Jamie to run into the Flash or even Batman himself. They could help introduce Jamie to the larger universe and explain what exactly happened to Ted.

At the same time, they could also help Jenny learn more about her father. This would work in two key ways to expand and explain the universe to the audience. Jamie could learn more about the other current heroes, while Jenny could learn about the good her father has done for the world. Combining these characters could also introduce classic villains.

The second scene is more vague

The second scene is a short cartoon featuring the Mexican superhero El Chapulín Colorado. The scene refers to a joke told by Rudy Reyes (George Lopez) earlier in the film. It is unclear whether this scene was merely a joke or a tease to introduce another DC hero. Some might consider the character an odd choice to be brought into the universe. If he does become a permanent character, he may have a place in this newly revamped DCU.
