Alan Wake 2: Remedy Designed It For 30 FPS! [VIDEO]

The Finnish studio says that its next game will have a proper performance-focused graphical mode despite this.

Remedy Entertainment’s communications director, Thomas Puha, took to Twitter to talk about the story of Alan Wake and Saga Anderson (remember, the FBI agent will join the writer in the long-awaited sequel to Alan Wake): “I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance mode on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. The game has been built from the beginning as a 30 FPS experience focusing on visuals and ambiance, but somehow, we have managed to include a solid Performance mode. We’ll talk details later.”

Let’s put aside the fact that Puha didn’t mention the Xbox Series S (he was one of those who said the console is holding back the performance of the other two because we need to optimize games for that, too!) because the essential element is that it’s 30 frames per second. We should expect that by default (in return, it should never go below 30 frames per second).

But let’s move on to Performance mode. A follower rightly asked a question: would it push the frame rate up to 60 FPS with reduced graphics detail, or would it provide an unlimited frame rate to reach sixty frames per second at best? (Subjectively, we might add that the latter would not feel smooth!) Puha replied that they are still tweaking it, which almost certainly means a significant day-1 patch, as the game’s release is not that far off despite the minimal (10-day) delay, and even though there will be no physical/retail release, it’s not that easy to get the game onto digital platforms.

Thus, the October 27 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Epic Games Store, as Epic Games Publishing funded the development) would not coincide with Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo Switch) or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PlayStation 5).
