Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Gets an All-New Story

Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be getting an all-new story when the highly-anticipated title launches next month.

Players of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will experience an entirely new story when they reach the Costa del Sol segment of the game. With the game coming out in about a month, Square Enix is constantly releasing new information about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to keep fans excited.

The original Final Fantasy 7 has been out since 1997, so by now most gamers are familiar with the main plot points of the title, even if they haven’t played it. As such, Square Enix has made some major changes to the story of the remake project to keep the plot fresh for returning fans and newcomers alike. It has now been confirmed that Costa del Sol, the resort town that Cloud and his companions briefly visited in the original, will be changing in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

The information comes from Twitter user aitaikimochi’s translation of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth co-director Motomu Toriyama, who revealed at the Taipei Game Show 2024 that Costa del Sol will now be getting an entirely new story. The translation also said that the resort will be the place where Cloud and his companions can relax a bit amid the seriousness of the story.

It was also revealed that player choices will play a role in the game, and will even affect the scenes, depending on the affinity between the party members. This affinity level will also have an effect in combat, where players will have different team attacks. In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, summons are also getting an update where players can now upgrade their materia to make them more powerful. There will also be a number of mini-games, including kissing contests where players can acquire equipment for their feathered pals.

With the promise of new storylines and features, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth promises to be a massive game. And with the 27th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy 7 fast approaching on January 31st, fans are wondering if Square Enix hasn’t revealed any of the best surprises yet.
