Touch Screens Will Benefit From the February Xbox Update

Microsoft’s new firmware update won’t be very powerful, but at least it will add functionality.

This month’s update has already started rolling out, and it stars the use of touchscreens during Xbox remote play. That way, if you were playing on a mobile device, you could control, say, Sea of Thieves, which is rumored to be a multiplatform game, on its screen. There’s an analog stick calibration tool for wireless Xbox controllers, and better filtering and sorting options for games and apps have arrived with the new system software.

“The same custom touch layouts available through Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta) are now available when playing games remotely from your personal console. This includes games like Minecraft Dungeons, Psychonauts 2, Sea of Thieves, and more. In addition, a basic touch control layout can now be used for most other games. To help you find exactly what you’re looking for on your Xbox, we’ve added new filters and sorting options to My Games & Apps. You can now filter games by accessibility, supported languages, and technical features,” Microsoft said.

You can find the calibration tool for your console and PC controller in the Xbox Accessories app. It helps us fine-tune our controllers and headsets. If the analog stick on our controller is experiencing minor glitches (becoming slightly inaccurate), this will allow the controller to fix them. The Subscriptions tab in our full games library has also been updated so you can add the latest titles to the top of the list on Xbox Game Pass, but Microsoft has added other features as well.

Today at 3pm Eastern, there will be a podcast with Xbox CEO Phil Spencer, along with Sarah Bond (Xbox President, but Spencer is the boss…) and Matt Booty (Xbox President of Game Content and Studios) to talk about the future of the Xbox brand, which will most likely focus on the multiplatform approach. We’ll be sure to check that out tomorrow.
