Battlestate Games went through hell over the weekend after first introducing an even more expensive version of the game (replacing the previous one) and then adding a PvE game mode on top of it…
The PvE mode is not DLC, according to the developers, but basically everyone else is claiming the opposite. But now the studio has come to its senses: anyone who bought the previous expensive version, the $150 Edge of Darkness Edition of Escape From Tarkov (which gives access to “all future DLC”), will also get this mode, which has a shortage of server capacity (so why was it introduced so early? Was it greed?).
On the game’s subreddit, studio director Nikita Buyanov wrote that he regrets that fans and the community feel this way, and that this negative reaction will influence their future decisions. Players with the Edge of Darkness version will not have to pay for the PvE mode during the early access period, and there would be no time limit. However, they will have access to the servers in waves due to server capacity constraints. When Escape From Tarkov reaches 1.0, there will be mod support for PvE mode.
The new expensive version, the $250 Unheard Edition, will continue to be sold, as well as upgrade packs for the cheaper versions. Battlestate Games will also offer additional discounts to players who purchase the Edge of Darkness version, and will remove the somewhat divisive “preferred matchmaking” proposal that was previously planned. Patches, new content, and events will continue to be developed, and reaching version 1.0 of the game remains a goal for the studio.
But it took six days of public criticism, with many on Discord pointing out that Buyanov said “sorry you feel that way” instead of “sorry we did the wrong thing. Still, it’s amazing that they’re asking nearly 100,000 for Escape From Tarkov Unheard Edition, even though the game has been in beta for over six years…
