The Man Who Caused Nintendo to Cancel Few of its Events has Confessed!

The 27-year-old gentleman threatened the big N that he would “kill everyone for sh__ty games,” which makes us think of two things: either he has too much free time or he’s not completely sane.

Kenshin Kazama is the name of someone who has caused considerable damage to Nintendo. He admitted his crimes in court, reports Kansai Television News. Kazama says he sent the 39 threatening messages because he was stressed out from playing the game. After losing all the time, he was extremely frustrated. The game in question was said to be the Nintendo Switch-exclusive Splatoon 3, as it was a first-party game, meaning it was developed by the big N.

Kazama was arrested in April after sending threatening messages via the Japanese company’s official website between August 22 and November 29 last year. He wrote things like “I’ll make you regret bringing such a shitty game into this world,” threatened to “kill everyone involved,” and said “be careful about events with spectators.

Splatoon 3 can be inferred because some of the threats were related to the national finals of Splatoon Koshien 2023, and it’s a TPS that can be considered a competitive title (Splatoon Koshien is also essentially an eSports tournament), and it can really bring out the animal in people if they don’t hit their shots. (The other is Mario Party, but that’s not an eSports title, and it’s more about destroying friendships…) The national finals of Splatoon Koshien 2023 and Nintendo Live 2024, which were to be held in Tokyo last December and January this year, were canceled, and the prosecutor said Kazama’s threats caused about 700 million yen ($4.36 million) in damages. The prosecutor said there were serious consequences and no extenuating circumstances for his childish motives.

The prosecution has asked for a sentence of one year in prison, but we will have to wait until July 24 for the verdict.
