Is The Elder Scrolls VI Todd Howard’s Game For The Next-Gen?

Despite the release of Starfield last September (with the Shattered Space expansion coming soon, and Todd Howard wanting to release a similar one every year…), the next game from Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) may be too late for the current generation of consoles.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about The Elder Scrolls VI, which Bethesda announced six years ago (we got a teaser for it and Starfield at the same time), and who knows how long we’ll have to wait. Maybe by the time Todd Howard’s next big thing is ready, Microsoft will have retired the Xbox Series pair. We’ve already heard from court documents that the game will be released between 2026 and 2028.

2026 sounds too optimistic. After Starfield, the next episode of The Elder Scrolls has been in full development for about a year, so 2028 might be the MOST realistic release date, because as AAA game budgets increase, it takes more and more time to complete them, and 4-5 years is considered common nowadays.

Prediction: We aren't getting ES 6 this gen

However, by 2028, both the PlayStation 6 and the next-generation Xbox (we’re not even going to speculate on the name here) will probably be in stores, and with Bethesda already owned by Microsoft, we can probably forget about the PS6 as a target platform. The Elder Scrolls VI already has a subreddit, and fans are already speculating that the current console generation is unlikely to get the game. According to another user, the PlayStation 5 has sold more than the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S combined, but if TES VI is the opening title for the next generation of consoles, it could spark interest in the hardware.

This is all speculation, of course. Maybe The Elder Scrolls VI won’t end up missing out on PlayStation. Maybe the Xbox Series will get it too. We can only speculate.
