TECH NEWS – Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro has accused SpaceX and Tesla billionaire Elon Musk of hacking the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, leaving Maduro unable to announce election results. These allegations are the latest in the ongoing feud between the Venezuelan president and the billionaire, which has played out through social media posts and press conferences.
Maduro has challenged Musk to a one-on-one brawl, which Musk accepted on the condition that Maduro steps down if he loses. Venezuela’s elections are the latest example of global political instability, with the U.S. government also taking a stance, stating that they believe the opposition leader won the election.
In a clip shared on X, Maduro appears to discuss an alleged cyberattack against the Venezuelan communications system, particularly the National Electoral Council. A machine-translated version of the audio reveals Maduro stating that he has asked Russia and China to assess the infrastructure’s integrity, ending with his certainty that the disruption was “orchestrated by the power of Elon Musk.”
In response, Musk shared an image of a DEA advertisement offering a reward of up to $15 million for Maduro’s arrest or conviction. Musk’s caption accused Maduro of “getting high on his own very large supply of drugs,” asserting that the image he shared was a “real DEA reward poster.”
Musk’s comments are the latest in a series of social media exchanges with Maduro. Previous posts have seen Musk threaten to “carry you to Gitmo on a donkey” and claim he is “coming for him.” Gitmo refers to the infamous U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Musk has acknowledged that Maduro is a “big guy” who “probably knows how to fight,” but he believes the Venezuelan president will “chicken out” from a fight, implying he is all talk and no action.
Should a potential matchup occur, Musk is not only willing to fight Maduro at a location of his choosing but also advised him to “bring his favorite donkey too.” Continuing his plans to send the Venezuelan president to jail, Musk also asked his followers on X to “inquire about the size of the orange jumpsuit [MADURO] wants in Gitmo.”
The Venezuelan elections, with both Maduro and the opposition claiming victory, have led to widespread riots by the opposition. After evaluating its options, the U.S. State Department shared its opinion, stating that the announcement of the results was “deeply flawed” and did not “reflect the will of the Venezuelan people.”
