Borderlands Movie’s First Results Arrive – Could It Be an Even Bigger Flop?!

MOVIE NEWS – Borderlands movie had a budget of 115 million dollars, but during its release it brought in less than 10 million in the United States…

Epic failure. These two words can be used to describe the performance of the film Borderlands at the American box office. To be fair, this was pre-packaged, knowing that the first impressions of the film were already disastrous. Many labelled the movie a “very bad” work, and we weren’t fazed by it either, to put it mildly – you can read our review here. Maybe the dynamics will change in the next few days. But it’s doubtful that moviegoers will flock to theatres to see this adaptation of Gearbox’s looter shooter franchise.

As reported by Variety, Borderlands will be one of the biggest movie flops in living memory.

So far, it has grossed $8.8 million in the US in its first weekend. It should be noted that the budget for the film is 115 million dollars, of which 30 million is part of marketing and distribution. It is true that only a few days have passed since the release, but the first weekend usually seals the fate of many films.

According to studio sources, nearly 60% of Borderlands’ production costs were covered by international pre-sales. But this is not good news for the production company either. We are still waiting for the international revenue numbers, but they are also expected to be quite damaging. The situation is not at all favourable for the film. The series owner is almost begging for people to see Borderlands in theatres.

A new Borderlands game is in the works

Recently, the father of the series, Randy Pitchford, confirmed in an interview with Epic Games that a new game is in the works. “Of course [we’re making a new title]. There will come a time when we’re ready. We’re working on a lot of Borderlands stuff.” It is not known when it will be official, but it is expected that the fourth game will be officially announced this year. It’s also worth noting that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 is also in development.
