Avowed Is Even More Complex Than We Thought – Developers Reveal the Number of Endings!

According to Avowed director Carrie Patel, the endings will be determined by “the totality of the player’s choices”…

Obsidian and Xbox’s big RPG stake is coming in a few months. That said, the developers of Avowed are already exciting fantasy fans by sharing details about the game’s world, mechanics, and narrative features. Because in a new interview given on the occasion of Gamescom 2024, it was revealed that the adventure set in the Pillars of Eternity universe will have more than ten unlockable endings!

Based on Avowed director Carrie Patel’s recent statement in a conversation with IGN, we’d say “10+ endings.” Because we may be talking about many more possible endings. Because the Obsidian team doesn’t even think specifically about the number of endings. “It’s very hard to say.”

“I can tell you that the number of endings is in the double digits, with a lot of different combinations,” says the developer.

“I mean, this is an Obsidian game, so the ending is going to be the sum total of the choices you make throughout the game, throughout the different content, based on what you’ve encountered and what you’ve done when you’ve encountered it,” concludes Patel. In this way, it’s clear that Avowed isn’t just setting up a multitude of story outcomes. It’s trying to present a handful of situations with decisions that help determine a particular ending for our protagonist.

Avowed will finally arrive in early 2025

Obsidian is, of course, touting the future virtues of Avowed, but their RPG has made headlines in the past few days by confirming a release date pushback. Although originally scheduled for release in 2024, the project was pushed back to February 18, 2025, to “give players a break.” After all, they have several large-scale experiences planned for the coming months, and the creators of Fallout: New Vegas don’t want the end-of-year dumping to steal the limelight from their game…
