HANDHELD NEWS – Ubisoft goes back and forth between yes, it will support Valve’s handheld PC, and no, it won’t… they should have decided by now.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will run on the Steam Deck from launch. This is unexpected, but still surprisingly good news. But it’s also inexplicable, because back in February the publisher, led by Yves Guillemot, said that no, the adventure set in feudal Japan would not run on Gabe Newell’s handheld PC. The reason given at the time was that the Steam Deck had inferior specifications compared to the game’s minimum system requirements.
What happened since then? Did Ubisoft realize after some testing that Assassin’s Creed Shadows can still run properly on Steam Deck? The official Assassin’s Creed account shared the news on Twitter, and now they’re waiting to hear from Valve how Naoe and Yasuke’s adventure will finally be rated on the now somewhat outdated Steam Deck, whose OLED model was released in November 2023 and is holding up surprisingly well, with Warhorse Studios’ great Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We could go on and on about some of the bigger titles that have been released recently, so what Valve has put together is really commendable.
Many of you have been asking about Steam Deck. We are happy to say that we are supporting Steam Deck at launch and are currently awaiting the level of classification from Valve. More info to come soon.

But the question is, will Steam Deck and Assassin’s Creed Shadows be a good match? We can’t say with 100% certainty that it will. This game is also designed for larger screens and more powerful hardware. You may be able to run it on Steam Deck, but you may be running it at a fairly low graphics setting and/or performance. Granted, it’s not a Lenovo Legion Go or an Asus ROG Ally X (both of which have more powerful hardware).
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
