Electronic Arts Gears Up for New Storytelling Technology! [VIDEO]

We already know which game will be the first to use it, as it’s the closest to the finish line in development.

Last July, after several rumors, Electronic Arts confirmed that Cliffhanger Games, the studio founded by Kevin Stephens in 2021, was working on a Black Panther game. All the publisher, led by Andrew Wilson, said at the time was that a single-player, third-person action-adventure game with an original story was in the works. Then came the silence, and more than a year passed. Motive has since announced Iron Man, and the Wakanda adventures will follow.

At EA’s investor day, Laura Miele, president of entertainment and technology at Electronic Arts, revealed how the publisher plans to position itself in the $20 billion action/adventure and action/RPG segments: “Next is our Seattle studio, Cliffhanger Games, and its renowned leadership team, known for innovative action RPGs like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Black Panther will be a love letter to the fans, combining vibrant characters, the world of Wakanda, an original story, and all-new technology to deliver groundbreaking design and storytelling that will be replicated across many of our games and studios.”

New technology that delivers immersive design and storytelling is what Black Panther uses and will be used in other Electronic Arts titles in the future. Let’s not forget Stephens’ role: The Cliffhanger founder was previously the director of engineering at Monolith Productions before becoming the studio’s vice president and general manager, so he had a deep knowledge of the Nemesis system that appeared in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.

This system is about the interaction between the player and the NPCs. Although it was not perfect, we have not seen it in any other game since. Could Cliffhanger be planning a new, original version of this using generative AI?
