The Japanese company is shuffling the deck for the new fiscal year, and the board of directors will change with a new chairman and CEO.
Koei Tecmo has announced that Hisashi Koinuma will become CEO of Koei Tecmo Holdings as of April 1. Koinuma, who has been with the company since April 1994 and was previously the Chief Operating Officer of Koei Tecmo Games, will remain in his current position (Representative Director and Executive Vice President of Koei Tecmo Holdings) until April 1. This will bring a new generation to the helm of the company, by the way, as it’s worth reflecting on the past of the current leader.
Yoichi Erikawa is a co-founder (!) of Koei, but better known as the head of Kou Shibusawa (the studio founded in 1981 and known for Nioh, Nobunaga’s Ambition, Romance of the Three Kings and the Uncharted Waters series), and will become President and Representative Director of Koei Tecmo Holdings. Keiko Erikawa, his wife (who is also a co-founder), is currently Representative Director and President, and will become Director and President Emeritus and Representative Director and President of Koei Tecmo Corporate Finance as of April 1.
Koei Tecmo Corporate Finance will take over the investment functions of Koei Tecmo Games in an absorption-type split. The move is aimed at strengthening investment management and improving cash management within the company. With Mr. and Mrs. Erikawa stepping back a bit from April 1st, a new generation of management will really be stepping up at the company, because with two founders now receding into the background, they will really be slowly passing the baton to younger people.
Koei Tecmo may be known for other franchises. Atelier, Dead or Alive, Dynasty Warriors, Fatal Frame, Monster Rancher, Ninja Gaiden, One Piece: Pirate Warriors are all associated with them, and since the fourth installment of Ninja Gaiden was announced and a remake of the second installment was released, we have been hearing from them lately.
