So Capcom can continue what we’ve seen on PlayStation 4 (too), while the Japanese publisher is still hard at work on Resident Evil 9.
In January, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rated Resident Evil 6 for the Xbox Series. Since it is a multiplatform title, Capcom will certainly bring the game to the PlayStation 5. This follows what the ESRB did recently, this time rating Resident Evil 5 for Microsoft’s current-gen console. So this means that after the previous generation of consoles, this one will also get these two games.
Resident Evil 5 was originally released in 2009 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. This was a big change for the franchise, as Resident Evil 4 (which was also a big change for the IP) was still a survival horror, but the fifth installment was a cooperative action game. In 2016, Capcom re-released it for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and in 2019, the Nintendo Switch got the adventures of Chris and Sheva. So, Resident Evil 5 also made an appearance on the previous generation.
Resident Evil 6 did the same. This installment (which fans consider the low point of the franchise) was released in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. In 2016, it also made its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with all the DLC, and the Nintendo Switch got Leon’s adventures in 2019. Resident Evil 4 also made its way to Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo consoles, so there was a re-release there as well, though Capcom has since re-released that episode (and before that, Resident Evil 2 and 3 were treated similarly).
And finally, a newsflash: Resident Evil: Re:Verse, a multiplayer game bundled with Resident Evil: Village, will be removed from digital stores on March 3, and its servers will be taken down on June 29.
