PlayStation’s State of Play had a little bit of everything: a bombshell in the form of a new Housemarque IP, a Days Gone remaster, and release dates for games like Borderlands 4. Among all of this, the event also showcased the action and dark fantasy of Capcom’s new title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The Japanese team is going all out with this installment, aiming to excite every Onimusha fan.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword introduces a brand-new protagonist in Capcom’s franchise: Miyamoto Musashi, “who will dazzle his enemies with his masterful swordsmanship.” The State of Play trailer, which you can watch above, gives us a glimpse of the game’s action-packed gameplay, featuring intense battles against monstrous creatures. The mechanics emphasize one-on-one combat, where players will have to take on groups of enemies alone.
However, Capcom isn’t aiming for large-scale battles. Players must strategically eliminate enemies one by one, using both Miyamoto’s sword skills and unconventional tricks. The trailer showcases the protagonist blocking attacks with a tatami mat and distracting enemies by covering their heads with pieces of cloth. And, as expected, the iconic Oni Gauntlet makes its return.
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster Finally Has a Release Date
It’s important to remember that Capcom isn’t just working on Onimusha: Way of the Sword. They’re also reviving another classic in the franchise. Recently announced at a Capcom event, Onimusha: Samurai’s Destiny is receiving a remastered edition with improved graphics. If that wasn’t enough, PlayStation’s State of Play confirmed that players will be able to relive this adventure on May 23, 2025.
