The French publisher’s fiscal year (which starts on April 1st) will probably depend on the fate of the new Assassin’s Creed…
At a recent event in Japan where Ubisoft revealed more about Assassin’s Creed Shadows (the location makes sense as the game is set in feudal Japan), Ubisoft Quebec creative director Jonathan Dumont spoke about the expected length of the upcoming open world game. According to a report by Genki Gamer, Dumont said that it will take at least 30-40 hours just to play through the main story. If you’re a Stanovist and want to see and complete everything, that could be over 80 hours of gameplay! Even if you calculate 30 hours, there’s almost no chance to finish it in a weekend…
Yes, but 30-40/80 hours is not as much as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It only took about 60 hours to complete the main story. According to HowLongToBeat, it took even longer to reach 100% completion: up to 150 hours! It should be added that the missions in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla were not always memorable. Players could get bored with fetch quests (the quest to get an item and then bring it there), and there were a lot of them. Hopefully, Assassin’s Creed Shadows can do better than that in terms of average quest quality.
Ubisoft has had to deal with bad releases more than once. Skull & Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, XDefiant and Star Wars Outlaws were not such commercial successes for the French publisher led by Yves Guillemot. The last Assassin’s Creed was a smaller title, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but that was good enough… but now the company needs to come up with something serious. That’s why they postponed the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows twice, in a desperate attempt to improve the game and make sure it hits its intended target.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
