Nintendo Switch 2: The Big N Didn’t Escape the Price Hike in North America!

Pre-orders for the Japanese company’s new console have finally started in the US and Canada, but one or two things have changed.

The Big N has announced that pre-orders will start on April 24th in the US and Canada. The price of the console will remain the same, so Americans can buy the new device for $450 and Canadians for $630 CAD, but if you opt for the Mario Kart World bundle, the price remains unchanged at $500 USD/$700 CAD. So the Japanese company hasn’t lowered the price of the console… but they have lowered the price of the accessories!

Mario Kart World is still 80 USD/110 CAD and Donkey Kong Bananza is 70 USD/100 CAD. That’s OK so far, but accessories are getting more expensive in the US due to changing market conditions, and Nintendo has already hinted that other products may become more expensive in the future. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is $85/$110 CAD, the Joy-Con 2 Pair is $95/$125 CAD, the Joy-Con 2 Charger is $40/$50 CAD, the Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set is $25/$30 CAD, the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is $55/$70 CAD, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set is $120/$155 CAD, the Nintendo Switch 2 case and screen protector is $40/$50 CAD, the Nintendo Switch 2 all-in-one case is $85/$110 CAD, the Nintendo Switch 2 power adapter is $35/$40 CAD, and the 256GB Samsung microSD card for the Switch 2 is $60/$85 CAD.

So the tariff war started by the United States is certainly starting to make itself felt in the gaming industry. Don’t be surprised if Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S get more expensive later on. We reported on the PS5 price hike in Europe earlier this week, but it did not affect the US market. PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass could face a similar fate.

In the end, it’s the gamers who will pay the tariffs. As always.
