Nintendo Switch 2: A PlayStation 5-Like Customisation in Store!

Nintendo’s next-generation console could be a little more customizable, and we’re already seeing examples of it, even though the platform hasn’t been released yet.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons will soon be customizable, with removable side panels that can be changed to different colors for a unique look. Accessory manufacturers have already designed different plates that can be purchased and used. This solution is similar to Sony’s PlayStation 5, where the side panels of the PS5 can be removed and changed to different colors. This is a surprising move by Nintendo, and it’s almost guaranteed that the big N will make some sort of money from this by releasing limited edition, limited character side plates… but that’s just speculation on our part.

The original Nintendo Switch was released in dozens of official color combinations, but the big N hasn’t announced any plans for additional aesthetic variants for the Switch 2 Joy-Cons. It’s clear that we’ll be seeing more Joy-Cons in other colors in the near future. What doesn’t seem to be changing much is the color of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (it will cost €90 in Europe), which will have other features beyond the controversial C button, such as a gyroscope, accelerometer, NFC, Bluetooth, and a new headphone jack.

The only question is what Nintendo will do if one of these companies steps on its toes. Will only licensed manufacturers be able to produce side panels for the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers? Of course, this won’t stop the Chinese manufacturers, as AliExpress will almost certainly be overwhelmed with these products and it will be impossible to sue them. (Of course, by then, who knows what tariffs the European Union will impose on Chinese products, as this can change from day to day.)

The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 is fast approaching, as we are less than a month away from the launch of the Big N’s new platform, as the hybrid console will be available from June 5th.
