MOVIE NEWS – No, this isn’t Kill Bill 3, but fans of Uma Thurman can rejoice: she’s back with a sword in hand, clashing against Charlize Theron in the first trailer for The Old Guard 2. Netflix’s fantasy action sequel lands this July.
It’s been two decades since Kill Bill Vol. 2 graced the big screen, and at this stage of Quentin Tarantino’s career, a third chapter seems increasingly unlikely. The good news? This summer, Uma Thurman returns to swordplay—this time to take down Charlize Theron in The Old Guard 2, the sequel to Netflix’s smash-hit action film.
A fight between two immortal warriors
Today’s teaser gives us a glimpse into the story, with a dramatic showdown teased between two ageless fighters. It appears that Discord (Thurman) has been lurking in the shadows, watching Andy (Theron) defend humanity while turning her back on her own kind. Now, she’s on a mission to annihilate Andy and everything she stands for.
“Andy and her team of immortal mercenaries are back with renewed energy to protect the world from the dangers that lie in wait for it. Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) is still in exile because of betrayal and the thirst for revenge takes hold of Quynh (Veronica Ngô) after escaping from the underwater prison. As Andy grapples with her newfound mortality, a mysterious threat emerges that could undo the work she’s been doing for thousands of years. Andy, Nile (KiKi Layne), Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli) and James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) are forced to turn to Tuah (Henry Golding), an old friend who could hold the key to solving the mystery of immortality.” — Official synopsis of The Old Guard 2
The Old Guard 2 is set to premiere on July 2, 2025, finally putting an end to the long wait for fans. While the first movie was a runaway success, the sequel has hit multiple production snags, causing serious delays—and even casting doubt on whether it would ever be released. Thankfully, the moment has come, and this summer we’ll be able to judge the follow-up for ourselves.
Meanwhile, questions remain about what Quentin Tarantino’s final film will be. The director shocked fans recently by shelving The Movie Critic, and while Kill Bill Vol. 3 still seems like a long shot, you can never truly rule anything out in Hollywood. Or can you?
