Grand Theft Auto VI: Another Great Result for Rockstar and Take-Two!

The second trailer for the game has been a huge hit, with nearly half a billion views – no mean feat!

Last week Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto VI would be coming much later than originally planned, and earlier this week they released a new video of the game. It shows an incredible visual experience, more ambitious and detailed than anything we’ve seen before. Rockstar now claims that this trailer is the biggest video release of all time, which is a rather fluffy phrase, but it’s backed up by some impressive statistics. Since the trailer’s release on Tuesday, it has been viewed by over 475 million people across all platforms, and that number is undoubtedly even higher now. On YouTube alone, it has been viewed over 95 million times.

The first trailer for the game, released in 2023, also reached 93 million views in the same time frame after its release, though for some reason it was also exclusive to YouTube (and broke viewership records, though it didn’t quite beat South Korean boy band BTS). The Hollywood Reporter compares the 475 million figure to the release of some major films: the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine had 365 million views on its first day, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps had over 200 million views.

There are several tracks in the trailer, but the main song is Hot Together by The Pointer Sisters (of I’m So Excited fame). According to Spotify, after appearing in the Grand Theft Auto VI video, the number of streams increased by 182,000% (one hundred and eighty-two thousand!). According to Spotify’s Sulinna Ong, “Grand Theft Auto cuts through pop culture like almost nothing else. Music has been synonymous with the series since the beginning, so it’s great to see new and established fans connecting with an iconic track in this way.”

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled for release on May 26, 2026 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. It may arrive on PC in 2027 or 2028.
