Tony Hawk’s Underground: Hawk Is Already Campaigning for a Remaster!

The veteran skater legend is doing everything he can to make sure the (two) episodes after Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 get some kind of modernization.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was one of the highlights of 2020. With Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 coming this July, it’s no surprise that fans are hoping this won’t be the last set of revamped Tony Hawk games. Even Tony Hawk himself doesn’t want it to end here—he hopes Activision will move forward with the Tony Hawk’s Underground titles. That’s where the franchise truly peaked a little over twenty years ago. (And from that came the fan-made Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, THUGPro.)

Hawk was asked by ScreenRant if Tony Hawk’s Underground came up during discussions with Activision. He admitted it hadn’t really been discussed, but he made it clear he wants it to happen and is campaigning for it in every way possible. He always has ambitions, but the final decision usually isn’t his to make. He’s working with a much larger company—one he says is smarter than he is. (Though whether that’s true is debatable, given that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was originally rejected by Activision, and developer Vicarious Visions got folded into Blizzard…)

So it looks like the future of Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 + 2 depends on how well Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 sells. But even that doesn’t guarantee success—Activision could still decide not to greenlight it. The fact that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is happening at all is already a miracle, considering another studio, Iron Galaxy, had to take over development. And the big question remains—why is the career mode being left out?
