Syberia Remastered: Benoit Sokal’s Classic Gets a Modern Edition!

Although Benoît Sokal passed away shortly before the release of Syberia: The World Before (on May 28, 2021), that hasn’t stopped Microids, its Paris-based studio, and Virtuallyz Gaming from turning this point-and-click adventure into a full 3D remake.

More than two decades after its original release, Syberia is coming back in a fully modernized edition. Rediscover its iconic locations and unforgettable characters through stunning visual enhancements, redesigned gameplay, and the same captivating storytelling that made it a classic. Kate Walker, a brilliant lawyer from New York, is sent to a remote Alpine village in France to finalize the sale of an old automaton factory. What starts as a routine legal assignment quickly transforms into an extraordinary journey through Eastern Europe and its snow-covered landscapes.

With her loyal and quirky automaton companion Oscar, Kate travels to mysterious and forgotten places filled with eccentric characters, as she follows the trail of Hans Voralberg, a genius inventor chasing what seems like an impossible dream: to find the last living mammoths on the mythical island of Syberia. It’s an emotional, surprising, and deeply human voyage that calls into question everything she thought she knew. Originally released in 2002, Syberia became a benchmark in the adventure genre, lauded for its distinctive tone, sharp writing, and Sokal’s rich artistic vision. This remaster is a new chance to (re)experience a masterpiece, following other Sokal titles like Syberia: The World Before and the newly released remake of Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy.

Meet Syberia’s most iconic characters in fully reimagined designs and explore its most emblematic locations, now brought to life with beautifully enhanced 3D visuals. Every environment has been meticulously rebuilt to stay faithful to Benoît Sokal’s artistic style, offering an even deeper immersion into his unique visual universe. The game’s intricate puzzles have been thoughtfully reworked to ensure a smoother, more intuitive experience while preserving their central role in uncovering Voralberg’s brilliant secrets. Rediscover Kate Walker’s journey with a modernized user interface, improved 3D navigation, and more fluid controls, all while maintaining the contemplative and narrative soul of the original game.

From the Alpine village of Valadilène to the icy edges of Eastern Russia, Syberia whisks players into a world of mystery, automatons, and poetic clockwork machines. Dive into a clockpunk universe where grounded realism blends seamlessly with dreamlike wonder. Experience a story deeply rooted in human emotion as Kate’s legal task evolves into a personal journey of discovery. With surprising encounters, emotionally charged choices, and moments of awe, Syberia blurs the line between the strange and the sublime.

Syberia Remastered is scheduled to launch in Q4 (between October and December) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 port also seems very likely to follow.
