STALKER Remastered Trilogy Slammed on Steam – Fans Say It Looks Worse Than the Original

The revamped STALKER trilogy just dropped on Steam, but it’s already under fire. “It’s like a joke that it looks worse than the original,” fans complain, citing visual issues, technical problems, and controversy over the removal of Russian content. The reviews speak for themselves.

The STALKER franchise has long been a staple of post-apocalyptic shooters, known for its haunting atmosphere, intricate lore, and brutal gameplay. The recent launch of STALKER: Legends of the Zone promised a remastered trilogy that would be free for those who owned all three originals. Expectations were high for a modern, polished update of the beloved classics—but that’s not what players got.

The STALKER Trilogy Remaster Is a Technical Disaster

The STALKER Trilogy – Enhanced Edition (Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat) is currently being torn apart in Steam reviews. Since launch, all three games have been flooded with negative feedback and slapped with a “Mostly Negative” rating. Gamers report numerous issues including blurry visuals, ghosting effects, and inconsistent performance across the board.

Many say the remasters “look worse than the modded originals”, and others note that the games fail to properly render at the chosen resolution, leading to poor upscaling. Disabling FSR or depth of field hasn’t resolved these problems. The absence of DLSS and DLAA support only makes matters worse. GSC Game World has yet to respond, and fans are demanding urgent patches.

“It’s like a joke that it looks worse than the original.” The trilogy is out on Steam—and fans aren’t happy.

On top of the technical troubles, some users are upset by the removal of Russian and Soviet elements. This was a conscious move by Ukrainian developer GSC Game World in response to the ongoing war with Russia. As a result, Russian voiceovers, Soviet symbols, and similar content have been stripped out. Meanwhile, the studio is fully focused on STALKER 2, which is set to follow a development roadmap in the coming months and will include two story expansions in the future.
