Nintendo announces a new Direct this week focused on the upcoming Switch 2 megaton. Donkey Kong Bananza Event Date and Time. The Big N has confirmed that the event focused on the next game, which will come out on July 17, will take place on June 18.
The universe of Donkey Kong has been able to reinvent itself. However, the Nintendo ape had not released a solo adventure for 11 years: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Wii U. Now, Donkey Kong Bananza is not only aiming to be the next megaton of Nintendo and the ape, but it will also make history as the second major Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. For this reason, and given the Big N’s awareness of the media pull it now has, the Japanese summon us for a new Nintendo Direct this week.
Date and Time of the Donkey Kong Bananza Nintendo Direct
Nintendo has confirmed, through Nintendo Today —the brand’s mobile application—, the broadcast of a new Nintendo Direct event exclusive to Donkey Kong Bananza on June 18, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time) on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. Like that Direct focused on Mario Kart World, the event will be brief, 15 minutes long, and will be focused solely on this project.
As we mentioned, Nintendo’s interest in the game is not surprising, as Donkey Kong Bananza marks the return of one of the company’s most beloved characters with his first “solo” adventure in years, and it does so at a key moment: it will be one of the first major exclusive releases for Nintendo Switch 2.
This not only implies a significant technical leap, but also a new opportunity to explore more ambitious mechanics. Donkey Kong Bananza isn’t just “Mario Odyssey with a Gorilla”: it’s a new action and terrain-destroying approach that takes full advantage of the power of the Nintendo Switch 2. Instead of focusing on traditional platforming, the game invites you to demolish entire environments, throw rocks, and knock down walls as if you were a living hurricane.
In addition, Donkey Kong Bananza is a change of scenery with a more expressive design of the gorilla, inspired by the Super Mario Bros. Movie and combines it with a sandbox game system that is reminiscent of both Super Mario Odyssey and Donkey Kong 64, although with its own personality.
