Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake – Is Ubisoft’s Most Troubled Classic Still Alive or Just Stuck in Development Hell?

“Yes, we’re still in it,” Ubisoft reassures, telling fans there’s nothing to fear with the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The dev team is “exploring, building, and making sure the sands shift with purpose.”

Ubisoft’s remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has become both one of its most anticipated and most problematic projects. The infamous 2020 reveal left fans disappointed, prompting such backlash that Ubisoft decided to reboot the development from scratch. Years have passed since that decision, and while the final release is inching closer, the French publisher is keen to remind everyone: production is in full swing.

Ubisoft posted a brief update on X, thanking the fan community for their patience and support: “Yes, we’re still deep into the game – exploring, building, and making sure the sands move with purpose.” The post stresses, “This game is crafted by a team that truly cares (and drinks a lot of coffee) at every step. Thanks for sticking with us.”

As shown below, Ubisoft also released a new screenshot—but there are still no gameplay details to be found. Since it’s been so long since fans have seen footage of the remake, this reassurance will come as welcome news. Most importantly, Ubisoft confirms the project is alive and moving forward, despite every bump along the way.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake now has a release window

During the recent Ubisoft Forward 2024 (the company has ruled out a similar event for 2025), Ubisoft announced the remake will arrive sometime in 2026. This was later confirmed in a financial report, pegging the launch for the first quarter of the year. That likely means the Assassin’s Creed creators are starting up their marketing machine—which could mean more details in the coming months.
