Dispatch: The Developers Have to Start Thinking About a Second Season! [VIDEO]

Interest in the game, a worthy successor to the Telltale legacy, has grown so much that the developers can no longer ignore it.

The superhero workplace comedy Dispatch has been a surprise hit. This Telltale-era relic (created by a studio founded by Telltale veterans) sold a million copies in just ten days. Although Dispatch Season 1 has not yet been released in full, this success has significantly increased the chances of a second season. In an interview with the Friends Per Second podcast, Pierre Shorette, co-founder of Ad Hoc Studios, said they now have to at least consider a second season. Three weeks ago, this was still in question. It’s a great problem for them to have. Three weeks ago? That suggests we were just a few days away from the release of Dispatch. Or, at least, just before the first episodes were released.

Telltale’s legacy had no real heir and proved less enduring than expected after the studio’s unexpected and chaotic demise. Telltale was important, yes, but how important was it really? Given the void left by the studio’s disappearance, it’s forgivable to wonder how, exactly. Whether Ad Hoc can be the Telltale for a new generation or whether Dispatch will be just a flash in the pan remains an open question. However, it’s clear there is genuine interest.

According to SteamDB data, Dispatch launched on Steam with 12,707 concurrent players. This number jumped to 66,000 on October 29 when Episodes 3 and 4 were released, then doubled to more than 131,000 on November 5 with Episodes 5 and 6. This figure will almost certainly climb during the week as the final two episodes arrive tomorrow, November 12. If the upward trend continues, these numbers make a very convincing case for a sequel, don’t they?
