Capcom’s game has reached another milestone, and the Japanese team marked it in a surprisingly understated way.
Resident Evil Requiem has sold more than 7 million copies in less than two months. It is the latest entry in Capcom’s long run of sales successes, and with that milestone Requiem has become the fastest-selling game in the history of the Resident Evil franchise. Capcom did not publish an official press release confirming the number, but the milestone surfaced through director Koshi Nakanishi’s Instagram account, where he posted a photo of Capcom staff celebrating with two Resident Evil-themed cakes.
The Resident Evil series has been on a record-setting streak for years. Back in 2021, Resident Evil Village sold 3 million copies in four days. In 2023, Resident Evil 4 Remake topped that pace by moving the same number of units in half the time. But Requiem has now pushed even harder: with 7 million copies sold since its February 26 launch, it took only two months to pass a milestone that required a full year for Resident Evil 4 Remake, which had sold 6.48 million units by February 2024.
Earlier this week, industry analyst Mat Piscatella offered more context for Requiem’s impressive performance. Based on Circana sales data, Piscatella says Requiem is already among the top five best-selling Resident Evil games by total dollar revenue, and in terms of cumulative sales in the United States it trails only Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, and the original Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil is not the only franchise delivering big numbers for Capcom, either. The company also announced on Monday that Pragmata sold more than 1 million copies in just two days. And now that Monster Hunter Wilds has finally cleaned up its obvious performance problems and is expected to restore its momentum fully this summer with the announcement of an expansion, Capcom is in position to pile up even more sales wins. At the moment, almost everything seems to be breaking in the company’s favor.
