MOVIE NEWS – Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon would already be enough to make any major studio release feel like an event, but their latest collaboration, The Odyssey, may go even further. The new adaptation of Homer’s epic could end up becoming the highest-grossing film of Damon’s entire career.
The names Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon are already a strong guarantee of success on their own, but their latest collaboration, The Odyssey, an adaptation of Homer’s epic, may exceed expectations. It is entirely possible that this production will become the most successful film of Matt Damon’s career.
The star’s current box-office record is, by coincidence, held by another Nolan film, Oppenheimer. The 2023 biographical drama generated a staggering worldwide gross of $975.8 million, putting it at the top of Damon’s filmography. It is important to note, however, that Damon was only one supporting player among many in that film; if we look only at movies in which he played the lead, the record is held by The Martian, with $631 million.
The Odyssey will need to earn roughly $980 million to overtake Oppenheimer. According to experts, it has a strong chance of meeting that requirement, since the immortal – and this time genuinely epic – story, the lavish IMAX-designed visual scale and the unprecedented parade of stars all point in that direction.
The Odyssey – Hungarian release date: July 16, 2026.
